Fed: Poll result won't force rethink of Iraq policy - Latham

Labor is standing by its promise to bring troops home from Iraq by Christmas despite
a drop in its primary vote in the latest Newspoll.

Today's Newspoll, published in The Australian newspaper, shows a two per cent drop
in Labor's primary vote.

But despite the drop in primary support to 42 per cent, Labor remains in an election
winning position on a two party preferred basis -- 53 per cent to the coalition's 47 per
cent.

Opposition Leader MARK LATHAM has put a Christmas deadline on troop withdrawal from
Iraq if his party wins government this year.

Mr LATHAM says the fall in support won't force a rethink of his troop withdrawal commitment.
