Fed: Unions challenge NAB strategy and query ANZ offer
A Finance Sector Union bid to stop the National Australia Bank from sacking thousandsof workers will be heard in the Australian Industrial Relations Commission tomorrow.
Commissioner BRENDAN EAMES will hear submissions from the union and the bank at a Melbournehearing from 10am (AEST).
NAB released its Positioning For Growth program yesterday, confirming union fears thatthe strategy which hopes to save Australia's biggest bank $370 million over the next twoyears will require the closure of 56 branches and the axing of 2,000 jobs.
The FSU is asking for the industrial commission to ensure unions are told the numbersand positions of employees to be made redundant.
It's also requesting the bank not proceed with the rationalisation plan.
Meanwhile, NAB has rejected an offer from its rival, ANZ, to buy many of the branchesit's going to close.
